When It All Comes Around

When It All Comes Around is the story of Nick and Hilda Hrab, who immigrated to the USA from Germany, after World War II. Theirs is a tale of survival, romance, marriage, betrayal and redemption, tracing a pair of lovers from their separate childhoods during World War II through seemingly endless bombings, to their immigration to the United States, where they build a family. Nick Hrab, begins the book as a Romanian boy, fleeing from Russian soldiers who destroy his village and kill most of those he holds dear. Meanwhile, Hilda Merck is a child on an island paradise in southern Bavaria, surrounded by the Alps. Oblivious to the carnage of the spreading war, she and her companion, Anna, play in a fantasy world, pledging their undying friendship to each other. After the war, Nick and Hilda meet in Peiting, Germany, and fall in love, while dancing beneath a thousand Christmas lights. Soon, they move to America and marry, where they face fresh struggles. Not only does Hilda face the difficulties of raising a family, but her mother-in-law seeks to destroy her reputation and eliminate her relationships with all friends and family in Germany. Deeply hurt and feeling terribly alone, Hilda immerses herself in caring for her family and trusting God for those things she cannot control. Ultimately, the story comes full circle, when Hilda’s son, George, joins the Army and is sent to Germany, where he meets a girl and falls in love. When It All Comes Around is a story of desperate survival, followed by bitter betrayal, and miraculous restoration, thereby proving the old adage: “What goes around comes around.”
